Last Friday, job growth and unemployment numbers came out. What were they and what was their significance?
Student's Response....
Job growth grew by 96,000 from July to August and unemployment went from 8.3 percent to 8.1 percent. They are significant because they will be numbers referenced multiple time during the 2012 presidential campaign. The percent numbers are significant because they most likely went down because people simply just stopped looking for work.

Last month job growth slowed and unemployment
fell as more people stopped looking for jobs. The Department of labor
said, last Friday, that the economy added 96,000 jobs in August which
was down from the 141,000 added in July. The unemployment rate fell 8.1% from
8.3% in July; mainly because 368,000 people stopped looking for
jobs. These numbers are important to the election because Romney could use them
and say that President Obama has failed to help the economy and that if
re-elected the president would make the economy worse.
